Season 2014 in Germany

Postby Guillaume Gomard » Mon Mar 17, 2014 8:59 pm

Welcome everybody to my second topic which will be dedicated to the observations made in Germany, with a special focus on the Black Forest (northern part).

I have visited the latter place 4 times within the last 2 months and was not able to observe a single V.berus. The situation changed during my last visit and I was rewarded by a situation I really wanted to photograph, namely a black adder in the vicinity of snow. I feel even more lucky that the adders are still pretty hard to find at the moment, even if there is almost no snow left. On the contrary, this period is particularly intense for frogs as you will see on the pictures below (all taken in Black Forest, at around 900 a.s.l):

Hi Fieldherpers!

After some time of inactivity on the forum I would like to share with you some pictures taken in the Black Forest between April and October. I could observe many specimens in areas I had never looked before (the domain being really vast), and could find for the first time (for me) a nice Natrix in this spot. As you will see below, most of the adders I observed were black specimens (they should account for more than 90% of my observations...). Particularly pleasant this year was the low level of ticks in the field, which was quite unexpected to me since the winter was not so cold. Anyway, enjoy this small selection:
