We spent this weekend at Corina`s parents in southern Bessarabia. As usual we kept an eye out for wildlife.
The birds were few and far between, and the lakes were all frozen stiff. We even searched some abandoned farms in hope of some herps trapped in open manholes. Turns out that sometimes you gotta let the animals come to you.
Here`s what was in our backyard:
Signs of spring:
Habitat...?!
Well, in the upper left corner some bats were making lots of noise, then decided to fly out to hunt for bugs:
Pipistrellus kuhlii - LIFER!
And bellow the staircase is the home of this Green Toad, that decided to greet us after sunset:
What a great trip!
Happy herping!
