I recently went ammodytes hunting again but unfortunately I had a problem with the battery on my canon.... (Guess I have no luck when I go searching for ammodytes last time I forgot my camera) This is the only decent picture I managed to take of ammodytes.

Just to interrupt a little bit this line of "my-first-berus-this year", "my-second-berus-this year"...
may I jump in with something else: certainly not the first ammodytes found in 2014, but it was
a real pleasure to see 15 of them in a few hours, on a sunny afternoon of March 30th 2014. Never
before have I seen so many in a single day, so it was a real..."Erlebnis" (in German) - the English
(equivalent?!) "experience" sounds just too weak...
This guy was 76.5 cm total body length:

Another male:

And a cute juvenile:

Almost all of them were males, mostly not yet shed, which means, fresh from hibernation.
Nevertheless, they were quite fat - obviously they enjoy the advantages of a very favourable
locality.
