It's very interesting and a bit disappointing for me because I'm going to Montenegro next week and the project was to take in-situ pics of vammos ! I have not yet experience with vammos and I thought that it was a bit the same as aspis...

But now I hesitate to take the material for in-situ... The vegetation is probably high in the south and it will be particularly difficult to take in-situ pics. The best period for that in Switzerland with aspis is during the first and last weeks of the seasons...

some from me ...

really old stuff from bolzano - hot summerday
i200569.jpg

i200588.jpg

shot from Ammo Dream Area - hot springday
m200787.jpg

by the way, I nearly grabbed into that one while shooting a natrix

and a last one from austria - really hot summer day
oest2011119.jpg

that one was too big for me, to make experiments.
so I simply was watching that ammo for quite a long time until my dad came to bring me home :D
it was no problem to show him that animal when he came

so whatever....don´t worry about insitu pics - simply do it

OK, OK, guys, I never said it was downright impossible...

And thanks, Guillaume, for prompting me to jog my memory - yes, a long time ago, on the 12th of August 2004
I shot this in situ photo (and some others of the same animal):

Be_0870_SMALL.jpg

and three days later, on the 15th, the same tree, the same branch, the same animal:

Be0930_SMALL.jpg

Be0929_RED.jpg

Be0931_RED.jpg

But that's easy - a vammo on a branch just stays put, for as long as it takes.
Also, that was nine months before I met my first herpetology teacher, our honorable
admin Mario, who taught me how to CATCH a snake (& a lot of other things, of course).
So, back in 2004, with a venomous snake, in situ was really the only option I had...

And yes, even earlier than that, before the era of digital photography, so pardon my
badly scanned slides:

zatokaVA_1_RED.jpg

zatokaVA_2_RED.jpg

zatokaVA_3_RED.jpg

zatokaVA_4_RED.jpg

But the situation was the same: a totally helpless vammo with no opportunity to take cover.
(And a totally helpless me, with no choice either.)

And way back in May 1988, while searching for morels (Morchella spp.):

Modrus_02_05_1988_RED.jpg

And that's really all of my vammo-in-situ stuff.

I'm happy you looked back into your archives Bero, those pictures are really nice (well, especially the first ones), and the specimens true beauties! I'm curious: How many times have you observed climbing ammos like those ones? I only observed this one time with an asp viper (Cf viewtopic.php?f=9&t=703)

Three more in situ pictures from snakes paradise a.k.a. Montenegro. As far as I can judge ammodytes behaves like aspis.
