third and last part

The next three days we spent at the Mikri Prespa lake and its surroundings. Also we did a half day trip up to the Varnous mountain.

At about 1´000 meters asl we found a population of Lacerta agilis cf. bosnica. But in the very dense vegetation, we could get only one female.

From the Prespa lakes we drove back to Thessalia. We wanted to show Christoph the very nice area of the Meteora rocks and some of the monasteries. This would also be a very goood herping area, but at our visit it was much, much to hot!

From Thessalia we took the road back to Igoumenista, crossing the Katara pass. Near the gap on a small side road we found this nice pond with dozens of Mesotriton alpestris inside.

A baby Vipera ammodytes tried to escape from the heat of the day in a small crevine.
