Hi,
back from our late summer trip here are some impressions from Samos: Although September isn't the best time for herping we at least saw some of the key-species of Samos.
- Anatololacerta anatolica can be found in Greece only on Samos
- Ophisops elegans - a common species on Samos: I love the juveniles climbing on blade of grass
- This red tailed Ablepharus is interesting: red tails have been described in literature for A. budaki and I have seen them on Cyprus. But I have never heared of red tails at A. kitaibelii. The question is now: is it A. kitaibelii or anything else? Has anyone seen red-tailed A. kitaibelii?
Trachylepis auratus has been one of my most wanted species during the last years. Hence, I'm a little bit proud of the following pictures - they required extreme patience!
- We came across Chamaeleo chamaeleon crossing the road
- The same specimen some minutes later in a bush - note the change of coloration.
That's all for now!
Regards
Peter

Hi Peter,
the red tailed Ablepharus is very interesting.
I have seen some Ablepharus, also youngsters, on the opposite mainland of Turkey (between Selcuk and Bafa lake), but none of them had a red(dish) tail!
I love the Chamaeleo shots, especially that one with the lizard in a "strange environment"!

These are some great and precious photos!
I love the Ophisops! It's been a dream of mine for a long time!(In Bulgaria it is found only in a small area in the southern part of the country) Thanks a lot Peter!

Congratulations, Peter! I like all the photographs! The stress-coloured chamaeleon seems to know that crossing the road is dangerous...
