Postby Michael Wilms » Wed May 13, 2015 11:38 am

Some pics and a Trip Report from my first Croatia Trip 2013.

The whole Trip Report (23 pages) you can find here, eihter in English or in German: http://michaelwilms-naturfotografie.jimdo.com/reiseberichte-exkursionsberichte/.

Almost all pics I also will send now in the threat here with a short description. For more information please read the report.
If there a mistakes, especially with the species of lizards, please correct me.

The whole trip was from 13/04/2013 till 08/05/2013.

The route of the trip:

1) National Park Plitvice lakes
2) National Park Krka waterfalls
3) Pakostane and Vransko Jezero (Lake Vrana)
4) National Park Paklenica
5) Island Pag

The first stop was National Park Plitvice lakes
On the higher lakes there was still a lot of snow and some paths were still flooded and closed.

Euscorpius sp. (I found the evening before visiting the national park)

18.jpg

Hierophis gemonensis
19.jpg

The young Elaphe quatuorlineata, the Hierophis gemonensis and an Elaphe situla (which I could not get a pic of) I found all in an area of 25 sq.m., but at different times.

The third stop was Lake Vrana and Pakostane

Testudo hermanni boettgeri, I found 3 female and 1 mal near Pakostane on just a few sq.m.

22.jpg

Pseudopus apodus, I really found very often nearly all over all the places I visited

The fourth stop was National Park Paklenica

Zamenis longissimus, I found two times in the valley near the creek

Emys obicularis, which were difficult zu get good pics of
48.jpg

Zamenis situla

For a Zamenis situla I searched the whole trip. I found one near Krka, which was too fast, and one DOR on the peninsula Lun on Pag and then one on Pag near Metajna, of which I got good pics.

Even the Podarcis siculus (the one before Algyroides nigropunctatus)? I had some (rather little) doubts,
but if you say so...

That's just what I thought - what else could it be?! Why the question in the first place...?

@ Michael: When you visit the NP Krka again, in the "giftshop" you could buy two booklets: "The reptiles of Krka NP" and
"The amphibians of Krka NP", in Croatian and (rather good) English. Not much of scientific literature, but nicely written,
nicely illustrated & still much better (for you, at least) than some other souveniers offered to tourists... Your girlfriend
might choose something else, also not bad at all - I've learned there that they insist on having nothing "made in China",
only genuine Croatian products - but do check that for yourself on the spot, with open eyes...

Thank you for your help!
I don't know much about toads and determination from distance (from a gangplank) when it is under water is then difficult. ;)

Even the Podarcis siculus (the one before Algyroides nigropunctatus)? I had some (rather little) doubts,
but if you say so...

I was also not sure with my Podarcis siculus determination, that's why I wrote at the beginning, that you're welcome to correct me.. ;)

As far as I know, at the moment Mario & friends are already on the Island of Krk, till Sunday, so let's not
expect the master's final verdict till he comes back... The others can freely make their guesses, of course...

Very nice. For me, the "siculus" looks like melisellensis.
