Together with Paul and Sjoerd I did a tiny trip to Skyros to see the Skyros Wall Lizard. Only for 3 nights but we managed to see most of the herpetofauna on the island. Definitely a fun trip on a beautiful little island!

Very nice little report, I didn't expect otherwise. :) Your first half day must have been crazy, so many species in a short time. I especially love the Zamenis, a species I still didn't see alive... A nice shot of Kotschy's Gecko, too.

nice report and pictures, Bobby.
Interesting, Mauremys was mating at middle of October.
Like Amphibians in the southern Mediterranean - winter breeder

Thomas, Mario, Jürgen, thanks!

Thomas, with such a bedazzling first day we could afford to be a tad lazy on the remaining days which was nice ;) Indeed we were very lucky to see so much in a small time frame, if our first day would not have been like that the trip outcome would have looked a lot different!

Mario, Mauremys mating in October also surprised me! I am not sure if it is known from European terrapins but in tortoises I have seen it more often.

Jürgen, how beautiful Zamenis and Telescopus are, I do have a soft spot for Natrix and the snake we found the second last day was just amazing!

Bob, what makes you say marginata and 4lineata would be rare in Skyros? I'm guessing marginata was once introduced, so that would make "rareness" perhaps explainable/understandable, but 4lineata "scyrensis" probably not...?

Well, that is a thought that crossed my mind maybe but where do you see its written?

I don't believe these species are as common on Skyros as they might be on the mainland though... Of course Skyros is infrequently visited so hard to tell.

Yes I also like to watch at other wildlife! Mostly invertebrates but also birds, mammals, fish. And on a day with such shitty weather there was no other option than birding
