A month around Spain in september

Postby Alexandre Roux » Thu Jun 01, 2017 10:17 am

Hi guys,

My girlfriend and I are planning (it's almost planned for now but still alterable) a trip around Spain.
We're leaving Lyon

Our main goal is to see the 3 terrestrial carnivorous (Brown bear, Iberian Lynx and Wolves). As I have really good places for these animals, that could give me a lot of time for the herps :D
And we added some whale watching as well (my girlfriend is an absolute lover of whales and dolphins and so am I).

We're leaving Lyon on the 2nd of September (and must be back on the 28th).
Here's the plan:

Lyon -> Bilbao area (dolphins and whales) -> Burgos area -> Picos de Europa -> Parque Natural Somiedo (Bears) -> Sierra de Gredos (Wolves) -> Lisboa -> Portimão area (Dolphins) -> Parque Natural da Ria Formosa -> Sierra Andujar (Lynx) -> Valencia area -> Port aventura (just to have some fun) -> Lyon

I already have some good plans for herps but feel free any. I'm especially looking for Macroprotodon brevis, Hemorrhois hippocrepis, Chalcides bedriagai and the two Blanus sp. spots as I don't have any.

I'm not sure I will stop at every herp spot I have but that's preferable to have the choice to go or not that having nothing ;)

Thanks a lot and I let you know what comes out from this trip !

Looks like a fascinating wildlife package! Not everybody meets bear, dolphin and two vipers in one holiday.
Well done and thanks for sharing and inspiring!

Hi Alexandre,

I really enjoyed your trip report with all the exciting wildlife encounters = congratulations on a great trip. I'm off to Spain later this month for an extended stay. If I see half of what you managed I'll be a happy man.

Thanks a lot for reading. I hope I'll be able to do another one like this with some herpers now !

Note that I said in my first post:

I've seen many things down there but not the ones I initially hoped for (excepted for a C.bedriagai and dead or too shy H.hippocrepis  ). Because nothing's perfect.
