Armenia 2012 (4)

Postby Martin Vlcek » Thu Aug 09, 2012 2:49 pm

Given that the next phase of our expedition spent around the lake Sevan didn’t bring many herpetological findings, perhaps with the exception of observing beautiful lizards Darevskia raddei and finding one Coronella austriaca individual in Sevan town, I shall continue with the final part of our journey, which we spent around the capital city, Yerevan.
We chose a remote rocky location, about 15 kilometers northwest of Yerevan for the last herpetological investigations of the Armenian territory. This soon proved to be very interesting. Within two hours of searching, we found 18 individuals of Typhlops vermicularis there, 21 individuals of Eirenis punctatolineatus, one representative of the Telescopus fallax and Macrovipera lebetina obtusa. From the amphibian species were found Pseudepidalea viridis.

At the end of my report I would like to ask any experts if they would assist me in determination of the Darevskia lizard species in the photos. I will also be grateful for any reference to literature.

A very enjoyable trip report from a part of the world not visited to often, I assume. Great landscape pics and nice species that you found there.
