No, you don't. Not like a Neanderthal. Not necessarily a compliment, but you don't. Neanderthals were
quite handsome people - at least (and especially) the younger ones, of course. (I mean, those individuals
much younger than either you or me...) Also rather smart, contrary to what has too often been said about
them.
In summary, getting older, uglier, and more stupid doesn't make anyone (any
Homo sapiens) closer to
Homo neanderthalensis as such (
an sich). It's an illusion (or a
delusion, although I don't quite see the
difference between these two terms - or just stubbornly refuse to do so...?)
More seriously, I first have to disscuss the subject with the best molecular biologist available to me locally
- on the phone, Martina Podnar Lešić - to understand WHAT precisely these alleged "2%" of "Neanderthal
genes" actually refer to. The "2%" of WHAT exactly, in respect to WHAT? I'd really like to understand that.
I'll report the summary of my understanding, if I get hold of it.
