Knowing Bobby personally and the other authors from reading in this forum, I expected a high-level book and set the bar high. After having a rather quick look I can already say that you did not disappoint but even excel my expectations. Big compliments! If I were one of the authors I would be proud myself, too. It's hard to imagine how much work and enthusiasm you put into this book.

Two points to consider when planning a revision:

One thing to criticize is, in my opinion, the hardly visible separation of the different chapters within the species accounts. The titles (families) and subtitles should be bigger or just more accented. Of course this is not an issue for experienced herpers who are well versed in the taxonomy of the European herpetofauna, but could be a problem for people that are not that much into this subject to orient themselves.

The printing of very dark animals should be brightened a bit in order to better see the structures of the animal (for example some of the crested newts or the black morph of Pordarcis lilfordii).

My copy arrived today - fabulous effort, will evidently replace all the other lesser guides!

Only one suggestion - should the inevitable and well-deserved second edition have a special 'pull-out' section for Great Britain?

Simply checking out the preview pages answers that question, I believe.

I want to thank all for their comments and remarks! In the end, the reprint of the hardcover will not be a revised version, but I will continue to collect your comments for as long as I am able, so feel free to keep them coming. ;)

In the mean time, this has been restricted to text pages only... :(
The entire index is still in it, though.

Hey Alexandre,
I got mine since july...you should be able to find it with every big website like ama... or hsb.... and others.
I find it great, with accurate maps and recent taxonomy.
Drawings are really good!
It's my "evening reading" since i have it ;-)
