Lizards ID Morocco

Postby Ronald Zimmerman » Tue Feb 18, 2014 9:52 pm

Last year I made a trip to Morocco. I almost have all IDs with help of the internet and people I know. I couldn't find a 100% match searching the internet for a few of them..

I found them a bit north of Agadir

I found this one on the same spot

My guess is Busack’s Leopard Fringe-toed Lizard (Acanthodactylus busacki)

I also need the ID of this one

Is this a Böhme’s Gecko (Tarentola boehmei)?

Thank you :)

Hi,

the fist lizard might be Acanthodactylus busacki (exact location?), the other two lizards are Acanthodactylus lineomaculatus.
Both Geckos look like Tarentola mauritanica (collars of small scales around tubercles) - exact location?

I found the first two and the thirds photo here: 30.710128,-9.857748

I found the first gecko here: 34.875303,-6.280505 and the second here: 34.873503,-6.253088

I think you might be right about the geckos :)

Yes, this is exact the location, where the contact, respectively the small overlap zone of the two species is (by our own DNA Data).
Southern part of the Tamri bay.

Dunes south of Tamri bay, May 9th, 2010

The locations for the geckos are far outside the range of T. boehmei!
T. boehmei only south of the High Atlas ridge.

Yes that is the exact location :D Very beautiful spot btw.

My first guess for the third photo was a Acanthodactylus erythrurus (‘belli’), because of the red tail. For the lizard with the lighter color I thought Acanthodactylus busacki.
But it is probably hard to say? So it is one of the two you mentioned?

So Tarentola mauritanica for sure?

It wasn't a real herping trip (also birds and mammals) and it was during the summer.

This specimen wasn't really stripeless

Thanks! I love them! I added this one to my favorite species list :)

We went to Merja Zerga for the Marsh Owl (Asio capensis) and Elanus. We found both at the same spot within a few minutes. :)

Are you the guy from the Moroccoherps site?

Yes! One of them

If you are in Moulay Bouselham (Merja Zerga) and you want to see them, you should have the bird guide Hassan. I know how the real Hassan looks like, but you can als validate by calling the number of him in the Lonely Planet.

Wow nice! You guys have a nice project! I visited the site several times trying to ID some species. :)
