First berus

Postby Paul Lambourne » Sun Feb 17, 2013 9:03 pm

The first berus of 2013 have been seen sunning themselves in Kent today... at one of my regular sites..

Not seen by myself, but a friend.. I will check out my other sites this week, if the ten degree heat wave continues...

Kind regards

Paul

Good news! Could you remind us when you saw the first berus of 2012 as a comparison?

Saw two males in N. Wales, UK as well. Rana temporaria have been breeding for the last 10 days.

Guillaume,

I personally did not see berus until the third week of April in 2012, however the first report for UK berus was the second week in Febuary..

Niklas,

I am still waiting for bufo and temporaria to spawn, some Vulgaris have been seen, but no mating activity has been observed.

So glad the season has started... :D :D

I had a look at my local site today but nothing seemed to be out. May have been a tad windy today so hopefully better look tomorrow. Male palmate newts in the garden pond currently in full breeding dress, but my first herp of the year was a toad being harassed by giant otters in Chester Zoo last week! It does seem that the 2013 season has begun. Maybe time for a new photo competition, Mario?

Meanwhile, in Copenhagen, it's snowing :(

I saw two vulgaris during our local "heatwave" in early January, since then only snow and ice.

By the look of the weather forecast I'll be lucky to see another herp of any species before we're well into March

... must emigrate...
