South Wales, UK. Sunny, 10oC.

One male. The more people look for adders on sunny days during the winter, the more we see.

UK wins again ;) Seems our berus can give the German muralis a run for their money for year-round herping potential! Great find Mark.

Lucky you are (or not?).
What about freezing in the UK? If it comes very fast, it will be a real disaster... same problem here with newts...

But for sure, a very nice obs that makes me be a little jealous...

Alex, I'm not sure winter switching on and off is as much of a problem for berus as it might be for other species, but see your other thread.

I don't really know what it could cost (in terms of energy) for reptiles, but what I'm sure of is that amphibians may lost a lot of energy trying to join water pounds and starting reproduction. As it will be the case here, freezing may be complete on some pounds and I've already found newts with nuptial attributes in these pounds.
