I asked the natrix what had happened to his scales and he said: "damn, the ceiling of my house has rusted! " :D ;)

I agree with Ruggero, it could be wet paint. It is note the first time that I see pictures of snakes that was painted.

I'm sorry. I have seen similarly colored natricine snakes, and I think it is rust or perhaps some other weird thing that basically dyes the scales this color.
